Closet organization hacks is something we all need. Even the minimalist who only have their capsule wardrobe. Some of the things I use became an absolute must for me to stay organized.
In this post I want to spark your creativity and share all my favorite little tricks and hacks to organize sections in your closet. If you’re interested in a full makeover or a system, I recommend reading my post – How to make the best out of a small wardrobe. I wrote more of my idea of a perfect closet and adjusting it to your lifestyle.
I hope you’ll like all of these hacks and find at least one new idea 🙂

Some of the links that I use are affiliate links – meaning I get a small commission with no extra cost to you.
First, why do you need closet organization hacks?
Because you probably have too many things. Decluttering is the key to be organized. If you already started organizing and you’re discovering things you had no idea exist, start with getting rid of 16 things in your room. After that you’ll be all set to try these cool closet organization hacks hacks:
Shoe Rack
To use the vertical space of my wardrobe, I got this shoe rack:
Very affordable, doesn’t take too much room and also use all the space.
Click here to get the shoe rack on Amazon.
Hanging Shoe Rack
If you have no space inside your wardrobe, opt for this hanging compartment organizer and hang it on a door!
Underwear Dividers
Use a compartment system to display your underwear and socks so you would never lose the ones you want 😉 I roll them and place them side by side instead of stacking them – that’s how I see all of them all the time.
Belts Rack
Use an old paper towel holder to keep your belts in place. It won’t take too much space and it will keep them neatly in place.
Tank Top Hangers
I use this one that rotates and I love it! It’s so convinient to use. I see everything that I have and it’s super easy to take off and hand back.
A hanger with extensions is also a good possibility.
You can also use these hangers for scarves and belts.
For a budget friendly option take a regular hanger and place hooks on it, then just hang the tops.
Fold Your Denim
Instead of hanging pants and denim, stack them on a shelf. It will save a lot of space.
You can also use the Konmari method and stack them in a drawer.
Hang Your Handbags
Instead of having them displayed and take valuable shelf place, hang them on a hanger in your closet.
I got a slim hat rack and use that for my bags.
Stuff Bags With Other Bags
Your less used big bags can be great storage for other smaller items like evening clutches and wallets. Extra bonus – it helps keep the shape of your bag!
Have a List
List your items and hang it in the side of your closet or on the door. That way you remember what you have. It keeps your clothes in place instead of looking for something you’re not sure you have. Yes, it happened to me. I was sure I had a black t-shirt, which… after taking everything out of my closet, I discovered I didn’t have one. *face palm*
Use Apps
With this app, you take pictures of your clothes and it uses your images to assemble outfits. That way everything is displayed all the time and you don’t forget what you have in the back of your closet.
Plan Your Outfit In Advance
During the weekend you can already gather items to one hanger for each day of the week. This tip saves so much time in the morning and keeps you stress free!
You can also take pictures of outfits you like. Then in a case of a rush you have something ready to go.
That way you will not accumulate a bunch of clothes you tried on but didn’t end up wearing.
I know, I must be a genius that I need to plan in advance a grey t-shirt and sneakers But with a capsule wardrobe, sometimes you need to look through different combinations.
Bins Storage
We all have that really high shelf we can’t even reach. Use it by organizing things in bins.
Put away seasonal items that you don’t use currently, extra blankets, towels, bags, etc.
That way you can just pull the bin, take whatever you need and put it back in place.
These are some of my favorite options from amazon:
Labels
And don’t forget to label those bins. If you place them on a high shelf, taking all of them out to find that beach blanket can get very annoying.
Jewelry Containers
For the longest time I had one pretty floral box that just had all of my stuff in a big beautiful knotted mess. Dividers are your friends.
Get a jewelry box, create a box, steal one from your mom like I did… whatever it is, do it today, it will make your life easier.
I just ordered from amazon the gorgeous rose gold hanger as well! So beautiful, and since I don’t have a lot, it will be a perfect fit!
Hat Rack
Just because its name is HAT rack doesn’t mean you can’t use it for bags, bras, tank tops, scarfs and… umm… hats! 🙂
Size Coordinate
I’ve mentioned this in my small wardrobe post, when you don’t have a lot of space, it’s better to organize from big to small. So smaller items don’t get lost.
While hanging your clothes, categorize them by occasion and then size. It will save more space than you think and you won’t lose another small dress again.
Color Coordinate
If you have more than one white button up (which I don’t recommend) then start also organizing your clothes by color inside their categories. For example, My evening dresses are organized by color but still not mixed with my summer dresses.
Shower Curtain Hangers
I already mentioned this cute DIY before – just take a hanger, put hooks on it and you have a scarf hanger, a bag hanger, a tank top hanger, the sky is your limit 🙂
Magazine Holders
Have a bunch of bags on the floor? magazine holder. Hair appliances? Magazine holder. magazines? magazine holder! Lol JK.
But in all seriousness, It’s a great little trick to store things in one place without them being a mess. Want extra organization points? put all those magazine holders in bins and place it on a high shelf or under the bed.
Pot Lid Holder For Bags
I know it’s crazy but this lid holder can hold clutches and wallets and then you just squeeze it back and it saves so much room and keeps you organized!
I hope you found at least one trick that will help you be more organized! I use a lot of these hacks and they really helped me to stop throwing my clothes all over the place.
I would love to hear more hacks that you use! We can all be a little more organized 😉

I’m actually in the process of organizing my closet right now since I recently decluttered, so this post is perfect. I love the idea of a paper towel holder for belts and the magazine holder for clutches/wallets. I never would have thought about that! I’m definitely going to implement those into my closet organization!
I’m so happy I could help! The magazine holders are definitely genius! They’re slim, they use vertical space and they are easy to organize with.

Wow, I needed to read that post to realize how much I need to fix my closet. I spend so much time looking for stuff, it never occurred to me to use labels. That’s great info, thanks for sharing.
No problem, thanks for the comment. labels are important but I always try to declutter as much as I can before organizing, so I would have less to organize and less time to look for stuff 😀

I’ve been on an organizational kick recently and this post has inspired me to tackle my closet next! I could easily part ways with at least half of the clothes I own- I’m excited to create more space for items I actually want to wear! Thank you for the helpful hints. Can’t wait to get started!
I’m so glad I could help! 🙂 Decluttering is the first step and then all these little hacks will be a perfect finish! Good luck!

Great list of organization tips. I personally could never live without a colorized closet. I organize by item type and then colorized within. Makes it so much easier to find what I’m looking for and easy when I put away clean clothes because I can physically see where it belongs.
I used to be obsessed with color coordinating. Everything looked like a rainbow and I was so happy lol. But now I just find it more comfortable to organize by function and size and only then color. But honestly, I try not to have that many clothes to sub-coordinate haha…

I am so happy I found this post. My closet looks absolutely messy right now and I have no idea how I would make it look like anywhere close to a decent closet!!
Hey Kapila, the key is to declutter before you start organizing! If you can’t imagine starting because it’s too much, read my post about having fun while doing tasks.

I love an organized closet! Jewelry containers are a must for me!
IKR? I used to spend hours fixing the knots in all my jewelry.

I love these ideas! I need some of those tank top hangers. I was given so many kids hangers when I was pregnant that I use those for all my tank tops right now since they are smaller. It helps save some space! And I have a hanging shoe rack as well for the shoes that don’t get worn often. The rest are on a rack in the garage.
kids hangers sound like a cool hack!

I so need to get more shelve compartment organizers I have two but it doesn’t fully work and need more. I love the belt option definitely going to do that!
I also had a system that didn’t work until I got the box system and I love it! I recommend trying it, especially since it’s affordable and easy fix.

These are all such good ideas!!! I definitely need to start being more creative with my small closet space. I moved from Dallas to Boston, and the closets here are SO much smaller than what I’m used to.
Lol, moving from Texas to a crowded city sounds like quite a challenge! I actually live in a fairly big apartment but the layout barely has any storage space, so I had to get creative!
I’m sure you’ll get used to it by time and find the right solutions for your space! Good luck 🙂
